Primary Bedroom Fireplace Wall Mood Board

When my fiance and I first stepped into our current home two years ago, we were met with the promise of a luxurious primary bedroom—a sanctuary to unwind in after long days. Yet, the reality fell short. The space lacked character, draped in old carpeting and painted with hues of pink that did little to inspire tranquility. To make matters worse, an unsightly window air conditioner unit disrupted any semblance of serenity, while the room’s vast expanse felt cavernous rather than comforting.

Undeterred, we saw the potential within these walls. With its generous dimensions, we envisioned the addition of a walk-in closet, bathroom, and even a laundry closet without compromising the spaciousness of the bedroom itself. However, to truly transform the space, we knew we needed to introduce an element of warmth and allure. Thus, the idea of a fireplace was born.

For years, the concept of adding a fireplace had lingered in my mind—a testament to the historic charm often found in homes of a similar vintage. While our new flooring awaited installation, we seized the opportunity to embark on this transformative project. To gain Michael’s approval and align our visions, I created an illustrative rendering using Photoshop. While initial discussions revolved around incorporating cabinets and open shelving flanking the fireplace, we ultimately veered away from this design, fearing it would echo the ambiance of a living room—a concept we reserved for another space within our home.

First, to get Michael’s buy in on the design direction of the project, I made an illustrative rendering using photoshop. We originally discussed adding cabinets on either side of the fireplace with open shelving above, but felt like that looked a little too much like a living room. We still would like to add a fireplace to our living room, so we aren’t completely ruling the design out – just not for this room.

Michael reminisced about his fondness for reading in our IKEA Poang chair, nestled beside a sunlit window in our previous abodes. As we navigated through the chaos of ongoing construction in our current home, we realized that the primary bedroom held the perfect nook for indulging in weekend reading sessions. With two expansive windows inviting ample natural light, it became the ideal retreat within our home.

The selection of an electric fireplace insert marked a pivotal moment in our design journey. Its effortless installation, requiring only a dedicated circuit and a plug, simplified the process significantly. Opting for a 33″ model, we found the perfect balance for our room’s dimensions. However, our quest for equilibrium extended to the realm of entertainment, as we found ourselves deliberating between a 55″ and a 65″ television at Best Buy—a decision that ultimately led us to compromise on a 55″ SONY Bravia, available at the store we visited.

As we continue to breathe life into our home, each decision, from the placement of furniture to the selection of fixtures, reflects our shared vision of comfort and elegance. With the flicker of flames dancing in our new fireplace, we can’t wait to bring the vision to life and embody the serenity we’ve longed for.
