First Floor Lighting Scheme

Even though we’ve been purchasing and installing them slowly over time, I’ve intentionally kept track of how each fixture fits within an overall scheme. You can read this post about all my plans for the house. I usually lean more towards a timeless modern style that draws inspiration from vintage designs. Those styles tend to be long-lasting but offer a fresh perspective. In our house, I’ve stuck to black fixtures, including lights, our kitchen door hardware, and our hinges. There is gold sprinkled in as an accent, but I didn’t want it to be too overwhelming since I think gold can sometimes feel more feminine.

Our first floor is somewhat open concept, with the dining room and living room blending into one another. It was important to treat this as one large room since, at any angle, you will be able to see all the fixtures at once. The style (for example: farmhouse, modern, or retro) should be consistent throughout the whole home but especially throughout one room.
