Our Master Bathroom Mood Board and All the Options we Considered

In the past I found picking out and renovating my flips so easy! It was almost like design at first sight. I walked through the home and based on the area, the existing features and characters, and the trending design at the moment I knew right away what I wanted to do.

I was also very tight on budget because I knew I would be paying for both materials and labor. In our case we would be installing ourselves, so we’re saving a little money on labor which means there are so many more options for materials!

Now that it’s my own home, I’ve been struggling to pick the right combination of tile for the bathroom. Michael had said he just wants bright white marble. So, we started by looking at carrara marble. Exactly one year ago I have this photo in my camera roll…

After countless visits to various tile stores, a slew of saved Pinterest inspiration images, and Canva mock-ups we have circled back to a white marble look.

At first we thought we would do a black accent wall like the rendering below.

After mulling it over we thought it might be too trendy and decided to go for a classic look with everything in marble accented with black and gold.

We plan to use large hexagon tiles for the main bath floor and small hexagon tiles for the shower floor. The shower walls will be a 6″x12″ marble tile. Our picks are #01 below! I’d also love to install a wainscoting around the walls.

We priced out and tested options 1-4 below. The others are bonuses! Whether you have a small or large budget, all these combinations will result in a timeless, classic, bright and refreshing bathroom look.

I typically only use small mosaics in the shower floor since the ratio of grout to tile provides a slip resistant surface. They are generally more expensive so while it may be beautiful to use in the rest of the shower, there are plenty of options to combine those mosaics with larger format tiles.
